Visions for Australia
Visions for Australia has been developed to give primary school students throughout Tasmania an opportunity to contribute to our states Australia Day celebrations.
To commemorate Australia Day 2010 students are asked to think about what they do to celebrate Australia Day with their families and friends, and then to translate this celebration into a drawing or words on the back of a specially prepared Visions for Australia flag.
Students’ flags will be sewn into bunting and distributed to Tasmanian councils for display at events on Australia Day 2010.
Visions for Australia is...
-
free
-
open to all primary schools in Tasmania
-
an opportunity for schools to be further involved in Australia Day community celebrations
-
a fun way to teach students Australia Day messages.
How does it work?
We send registered schools a package of A5 sized Australian flags and information on how to run the activity.
Teachers are then encouraged to discuss the meaning of Australia Day with their students and to ask students to think about how they celebrate Australia Day with their family and friends. Students can then translate their vision for Australia into a drawing or words on the back of one of an Australian flag.
The completed flags are collected and returned to us where we arrange for them to be sewn into bunting. The lengths of bunting are distributed to Councils for them to use to decorate their Australia Day community events and celebrations.
How do I get to be part of Visions for Australia?
Primary schools can register to design flags for Australia Day 2010 by completing this registration form and returning it to the contact details below. An invitation to participate will also be sent to all primary schools in August this year.
