Message from the Chairman

Australia Day - 26th January - is a very special day for all Australians, a day on which we join with family, friends and neighbours to celebrate Australian life together.

It is a day when irrespective of cultural, ethnic or religious differences Australians celebrate in harmony as one, to acknowledge the richness of our heritage and rejoice in the many benefits of the great country in which we live.

As Australians we cherish our freedom, appreciate our lifestyle and acknowledge the spirit of fair play and sense of humour, which identify and earn us acceptance in the global community. Australia Day provides the inspiration and opportunity to celebrate the true spirit of Australia on our national day.

We invite you to join with people across Western Australia to celebrate Australia Day, the largest single event on our national calendar. Further, we encourage you to celebrate being Australian throughout the whole year.

As a catalyst and facilitator of national and community pride, the aim of the Australia Day Council of Western Australia is to unite all Western Australians through the celebration of Australia Day - to encourage awareness of our Australian values through reflection and participation.

In achieving our aims the work of the Australia Day Council is strengthened by its many partnerships with state and local governments, also corporate and community supporters who join us as part of the Australia Day family.

On our website you will find many innovative ideas to help you create your own Australia Day celebrations at home, work or in your community, as well as details about local events in which you can participate to fully embrace and enjoy Australia’s national day of celebration.

Happy Australia Day!
