Come along to Monash’s Australia Day Flag Raising Ceremony at the Glen Waverley Civic Centre on Saturday 26 January 2013, from 8.45am-11am. Australia Day Ambassador Rachael Robertson will be joining us after returning from 12 months in the Antarctic. Rachael successfully led the 58th Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition to Davis Station. Rachael will share her thoughts and experiences on what it means to be an Australian. After the official ceremony, enjoy a free barbeque provided by Glen Waverley Bendigo Bank. Indigenous performer Benny Walker, one of Australia’s most promising new talents, will perform an effortless blend of soul, blues, reggae and acoustic folk. The Civic Centre is at 293 Springvale Road, Glen Waverley. On Australia Day in Monash, Council also encourages community groups to develop their own events. In 2013 we have a record number of 11 groups participating in this day, with very diverse activities ranging from free theatre performances to open days and displays.
