The Festival of Sails is Victoria’s oldest ongoing sporting event, and the largest annual keel boat regatta in the Southern Hemisphere. Held over the Australia Day Long Weekend, the Festival of Sails is historically linked to a sailing regatta however also offers so much more, as the Geelong Waterfront comes alive with a free Community Festival for all the family to enjoy. For those not competing on-water, the Community Waterfront Festival will see around 100,000 festival visitors head to the Geelong Waterfront to soak up the Festival atmosphere. The event will feature live music acts across three stages; fantastic mix of art and craft market stall holders; great food and wine; children’s entertainment and roving performers; a marine trade and boating lifestyle exhibition; an on-water ‘Come & Try Zone;’ a dedicated family friendly kids’ zone and much more. Australia Day (Saturday 26th January) will see the skies light up with the Bay FM Fireworks Spectacular, where the crowds always arrive early to set-up blankets and picnics along Eastern Beach’s best vantage points with radios tuned to Bay FM (FM 93.9) to hear the simulcast soundtrack. Whether you are a sailor, a boating enthusiast, a local or a visitor to Geelong, the Festival of Sails is the perfect way to celebrate the Australia Day long weekend with your family and friends.
